A Deeper Look Into Turning Away from Your Partner

Turning away from a partner is expressed, for the purposes of this article, in the action of turning down a partner’s bid for attention and emotional connection. These instances of turning away often seem small and may not provoke a response from the “bidder” at the time of rejection, but people do keep track of these instances internally and being dismissed too frequently can lead to frustration and build a pattern of attacking and defending in the relationship. Recognizing the negative responses we may give to bids is an important step in changing our behavior to avoid sending our relationships down a negative path.
