Many of us have found ourselves in heated arguments with our loved ones where there seems to be no respite in site. Our anger and frustration keep adding fuel to the fire, and our ability to listen to what our partner has to say disappears. It is in these moments, despite what our hot head tells us, that we need to feel safe. Doctor Gottman suggests we first focus on our core needs, what we need in the moment to feel secure, both physically and emotionally. After taking this into account, we will be calm enough to compromise and find a solution.
