Dalai Lama Says He Must Remain Neutral on Self-Immolations

Sometimes a gentle touch is required to maneuver through a tender or emotionally-charged situation. Dealing with the Chinese reaction to the incredible number of recent self-immolations by Tibetan monks is just such an instance for His Holiness. These suicides have been performed in protest to the Chinese occupation of Tibet. In order not to cause pain to the families of those who have died, he declines to say anything negative. In an effort to maintain relations with China, he declines to say anything positive. In dealing with others, considering all sides of the issue is always a good idea. Sometimes we need to guard our neutrality.
