Eastern modalities approach stress reduction in much gentler way than Western methods, usingĀ  techniques such as herbal medicines, meditation, or movement. These methods render us more able to experience what is occurring around us in the moment rather than reacting from distress or past patterns. Our overall health can improve as a result of practicing these techniques. Once we remove, or lessen, stresses that trigger intense reactions, our immune systems naturally strengthen. Researchers at Harvard are currently working to develop mindfulness meditation treatment models to help people to combat chronic pain.
